Binder Specifications
Visual Products' custom-made binders are created from your graphic artist's design files. Decorative artwork, like screen printing, foil stamping and debossing, can be applied to the covers and spine of your binders.
When receiving your binder order, it is important for us to know your:

Film Positives
You may provide your own film positives. They should be supplied to us "right reading - emulsion side up." Please provide your film color separated (if applicable) with a trap of 1 to 1.5 points with the lightest color printing under and "trapped" by the darker color or colors.

All files submitted need to include all fonts used in design.
Unacceptable Files
|
Designs created in Microsoft Word, Publisher and other PC desktop publishing programs do not have the high resolution required for sharp binder graphics. |

Likewise, logo designs need to be a minimum of 300 DPI. |

Screen tints and halftones may not print clearly on vinyl binders. We require a minimum screen ruling of 65 lines with a round dot. If your design includes screen tints or half tones, please call us at 336.883.0156 or toll free at 800.367.9216 to discuss details. |
Font and Line Sizes
Avoid font or type sizes smaller than 8 points so copy prints cleanly and is easy to read. It is also important to use a line weight of at least one point to ensure the copy is visible.
Full Bleeds
Visual Products can screen print images that bleed through hinges and beyond the outer edges of the covers in most ink colors. The exception is when metallic inks are used. When submitting a full bleed, your design should extend 1/4" beyond the outside edges of the binder and should not consist ofmore than 25% of the total print area.
Ink Colors
We custom blend our inks using the Pantone Matching System (PMS) as our guide. We can match most colors, however, very bright or light ink colors can be diffcult to match when applied to dark vinyl. We are happy to do a color proof if desired.
Considerations for Turned-Edge Binders
Covers and spine for a turned-edge binder may be created from one piece of board that is wrapped, lined and creased at the hinge - known as an Euro Creased Hinge.
The covers and spine may also be made from three separate boards that are joined together and then wrapped and lined.
Each method is esthetically pleasing and the method chosen is just a matter of what you and your client prefer. Please specify either creased or joined board construction when placing an order and requesting dimension specifications for a turned-edge binder.
